Nancy Pelosi, the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, tested positive for COVID-19, her spokesman said Thursday.

“After testing negative this week, Speaker Pelosi received a positive test result for COVID-19 and is currently asymptomatic,” spokesman Drew Hammill said in a statement.

“The Speaker is fully vaccinated and boosted, and is thankful for the robust protection the vaccine has provided. The Speaker will quarantine consistent with CDC guidance, and encourages everyone to get vaccinated, boosted and test regularly.”

Pelosi, 82 and a Democrat from California, appeared without a mask earlier this week when she attended a bill-signing ceremony with President Biden at the White House, The New York Times reported.

Biden tested negative on Wednesday night and was not a “close contact” of Pelosi, as defined by the CDC, the White House said, according to The Washington Post.

Pelosi is second in the line of succession to the presidency after Vice President Kamala Harris.

Pelosi is not the highest-ranking government official to test positive for COVID. In October 2020, then-President Trump was hospitalized after testing positive.
